From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Paris ([paʁi] ( listen) in French, pronounced /ˈpærɪs/ in English) is the capital and largest city of France. It is situated on the river Seine, in northern France, at the heart of the Île-de-France region (or Paris Region, French: Région parisienne). The city of Paris, within its administrative limits largely unchanged since 1860, has an estimated population of 2,193,031 (January 2007), but the Paris aire urbaine (or metropolitan area) has a population of 11,836,970 (January 2007), and is one of the most populated metropolitan areas in Europe. An important settlement for more than two millennia, Paris is today one of the world's leading business and cultural centres, and it's influences in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major global cities. Paris and the Paris Region, with €552.7 billion (US$813.4 billion) in 2008, produces more than a quarter of the gross domestic product (GDP) of France. According to 2007 estimates, the Paris urban agglomeration is Europe's biggest city economy and the sixth largest in the world. The Paris Region hosts 38 of the Fortune Global 500 companies in several business districts, notably La Défense, the largest purpose-built business district in Europe. Paris also hosts many international organizations such as UNESCO, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the informal Paris Club. According to the latest survey from Economist Intelligence Unit in 2010, Paris is the world's most expensive city to live in. Paris is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The Paris region receives 45 million tourists annually, 60% of whom are foreign visitors. The city and region contain numerous iconic landmarks, world-famous institutions and popular parks. My husband and I are looking to relocate to Paris, or the outskirts of Paris, and I am unfamiliar of what neighborhoods are the best for raising a family, and a safe, hip enviroment. We have a 1 year old little girl and I want to provide her with the best neighborhood possible, so could someone familiar with the area tell me of some great places for families? Asked by lilypond - Mon Jul 13 16:09:17 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Paris is like all capitals. It has extremely expensive properties in the middle of the city and a variety of suburbs which range from desirable middle-class area where properties are expensive like Neuilly, to poor down-at-heel areas like Saint-Denis or Clichy-sous-bois where poor immigrants have conglomerated and where there were serious riots four years ago when the police was attacked with petrol bombs and cars were set on fire. Accommodation is very expensive. To rent you have to think of 1 200 Euros a month for something decent like a small studio apartment. To buy a small house in a quiet area like Menilmontant, with living, dining -kitchen, three bedrooms and a bathroom, a tiny attic, a cellar and a small back garden, the price is… [cont.] Answered by WISE OWL - Tue Jul 14 10:24:20 2009 How do I go from Paris to Cannes via train? Q. I m planning to go to France this July. Can anyone please tell me whether its possible to go to cannes from paris via train. If yes, then where to buy the tickets from and how much they can cost. At the same time, what's the cheapest way to travel in France so that I can view the countrside and save at the same time. Thanx a lot. The website for French railways is very complicated and doesn't give results half the time. Supposedly you can buy your ticket online and pick it up at a French train station. Just buy it at the station when you get there, like a day in advance. One way 2nd class costs from $119 to $146 depending on train. Q. We're planning a trip to Disneyland Paris later this year and will be flying into Charles De Gaulle Airport. How much would it cost to travel by RER train (2 adults and 1 child) and whereabouts in the airport would we need to catch the train from? Asked by Osprey - Fri Mar 12 03:55:13 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. In the airport where to take the RER is indicated, and if you're not in the the terminal where the station is you can take the automated free shuttle CDG Val.. Then look at this map you'll just have to go from Aeroport Charles De Gaulle (B3 North of blue line) to Marne-la-Vallee Chessy (A4 East of red line) through Chatelet Les Halles. You're lucky the change is the easiest : once you're at Chatelet les Halles its on the same platform but on the other side (in front of you).. As for the price I just remember the fare from CDG to Chatelet its 8.10EUR/per adult (sorry no idea for kid) but you can check here i guess ==> Enjoy!!
